I is for Internet

As my home internet connection is down, the first word that came to me when I thought what now for I, was Internet.

Yes, you realize the value of something only when you have lost it...
Stuck with the slow internet on my phone I realized I am addicted to this thing which begins with I.

Above all I panicked. How will I do my a-z posts?!!
The nearby internet cafe is always full of customers and by the luck of my stars when I got access to a computer last time, it  had a keyboard with blank keys...( ?!! )

So here I am.. Attempting to create a post using the Blogger app on my phone.

I will tell you how the internet, without which most of us feel helpless ,came to be.

In 1963, the Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) unit, set up by the U.S Defence Department, began to build a computer network.
Driven by fear of the Soviet nuclear threat, it aimed to link computers at different locations, so researchers could share data electronically without having fixed routes between them, making the system less vunerable to attacks- even nuclear ones.

Paul Baran proposed this system which broke each message into tiny chunks. These would then would be fired into the network, which would then route ("switch") the various pieces to the desired destination.
Baran published his concept in 1964 and five years later the new network called ARPANET went live.

As the threat of nuclear war receded in the early 1970s, the ARPANET was renamed the internet and effectively opened to all users. Since then, development of e-mail, the creation of the world wide web and browser technology has enabled the internet to become a rich communications facility.

This post is a part of Blogging from A-Z April Challenge.
The Blogging from A to Z April Challenge was first held in 2010. The challenge is that we have to post every day of April, except on the four Sundays. April 1st is a theme with letter A, 2nd with letter B and so on till April 30th which will be Z themed. My theme is #Learning Everyday, I post about new random things every day.
